FLORIDA - Florida has maintained its position as the leading state in higher education for the tenth consecutive year, according to the 2026 U.S. News & World Report rankings.
The state earned the top spot for offering the lowest in-state tuition and fees, high four-year graduation rates, and helping students complete their degrees with minimal debt.
For 2026, seven Florida universities were ranked among the top 100 public institutions nationwide, placing the state in the top two nationally for the number of highly ranked public colleges.
Additionally, seven Florida universities made the top 100 list for best public colleges for veterans.
The University of Florida ranked #7 among public universities and #30 overall, maintaining a top-ten position for eight years.
UF was recognized for graduating students on time, providing the lowest net cost, and boosting post-graduation salary performance.
Florida State University ranked #21 among public universities and #12 for first-year experiences.
The University of South Florida ranked #43 and #12 for best value among public universities, while Florida International University placed #46 and was #1 for upward economic mobility.
Florida Atlantic University debuted at #100, Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University ranked #92 and remained the #1 public HBCU, and Florida Polytechnic University was #1 for regional public colleges in the South and #3 for best value public schools.
New College of Florida ranked #10 among public liberal arts colleges, the University of Central Florida placed #57, and the University of West Florida ranked #6 for regional public universities in the South.
These rankings highlight Florida’s continued focus on accessible, affordable, and timely higher education.
