Martin County, FL - Plans for a Brightline train station in Martin County are moving forward after commissioners approved negotiations to build the station during a meeting on Tuesday.

The new station would add a stop along Brightline's high-speed rail route between Miami and Orlando, joining existing stations in Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, and Orlando.

This decision follows a September vote by the City of Stuart Commissioners to rescind a previous agreement for a proposed station in downtown Stuart.

The original plan included a $60 million station on 2.35 acres in the heart of Stuart's historic district, with costs to be shared by the City of Stuart, Martin County, and Brightline.

Brightline, which launched its Miami-to-Orlando service in September 2023, has emphasized the importance of adding new stops to enhance accessibility.

If negotiations succeed, the Martin County station is expected to be operational by 2028.
