Ashley Biden, the youngest daughter of former President Joe Biden, has filed for divorce from her husband, plastic surgeon Dr. Howard Krein, according to court records obtained by the Philadelphia Inquirer on Tuesday (August 12).

Biden, 44, reportedly filed the documents in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas on Monday (August 11) after 13 years of marriage. The former first daughter shared a post on her Instagram Story featuring a photo of herself walking through a park and flashing a thumbs up with Beyoncé's song 'Freedom (feat. Kendrick Lamar)' playing in the background on the same day, as well as a quotation: “New life, new beginnings means new boundaries. New ways of being that won’t look or sound like they did before," with Lauryn Hill's song 'Freedom Time,' according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Biden and Krein were married in Greenville, Delaware in June 2012 and lived in Philadelphia. The couple had been introduced through Ashley's older brother, Beau, in 2010, five years before his death following a battle with brain cancer in 2015.

Ashley Biden has mostly stayed out of the public eye, however, introduced her father at the 2024 Democratic National Convention.

“At the time, my dad was vice president, but he was also that dad who literally set up the entire reception,“ she said in her speech. ”He was riding around in his John Deere 4-wheeler, fixing the place settings, arranging the plants, and by the way, he was very emotional.”
