Breaking Down Americans’ ‘Cultural Fascination’ With The Kennedys

The Kennedys were once the American equivalent of royalty, leading a political dynasty that has spanned decades and making a major impact on the culture at large. However, with the extreme highs the family experienced over the years also came extraordinary lows, from winning the presidency and influencing fashion to facing multiple assassinations that rocked the political landscape forever.

The United States of Kennedy podcast breaks down the "cultural fascination" Americans have with the Kennedy "dynasty." Each week, hosts Lyra Smith and George Civeris will utilize research, personal anecdotes and gossip to dive deep into one aspect of the rich story of one of the most famous families in the history of America, a family that has "shaped America decade after decade."

On the first episode of the podcast, Smith and Civeris detailed the Kennedy's extensive family tree to give listeners a look at all of the featured players that will be discussed in future episodes as they discuss the family's "political and cultural dominance."

"Generally, we're going to explore everything that has to do with the Kennedys week after week," said Civeris. "We're going to look at everything, from what really happened at Chappaquiddick to the fashion of proto-influencer Carolyn Bissett to the online antics of Jack Schlossberg."

Smith added, "Each week, we'll revisit a different historical event, tabloid controversy, or pop culture moment and try to get closer to answering the question, 'What is it about the Kennedy family that keeps us locked in?'"
