Two Teens Arrested In Shooting Of A Miami-Dade Police Officer

A Miami-Dade Police Crime Suppression Officer has been discharged from Ryder Trauma after a shooting in Miami Gardens. That officer,29, a seven year veteran of the force, is alive, perhaps, thanks to his bulletproof vest. A gunshot reportedly ricocheted off his vest in the chest area striking him in the face.

Two of five people held for questioning have been arrested overnight. Travis Fernandez, and Drequan Humes, both 19, are facing 2nd degree attempted murder of a law enforcement officer charges among other things.

According to the arrest reports, the undercover officer who was shot identified Fernandez as the man who shot him. Fernandez later denied any involvement, while Humes admitted to shooting at the officers' vehicle, the reports said.

In addition, Humes is also facing charges of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. His bond is set at over $25,000. Bond for Fernandez is set at $10,000.

Detectives say this remains an active investigation.
