Testimony is underway in the Palm Beach County murder trial of a former Florida State University football star.
Travis Rudolph faces life in prison for first degree murder in the death of one of four men who confronted him in front of his home in Lake Park two years ago.
During opening statements, defense attorney Heidi Perlet told jurors that Rudolph's girlfriend ordered her brother to shoot the wide receiver after she caught him cheating on her.
"Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Her rage and jealousy set this entire thing in motion."
Prosecutor Richard Clausi told the jury that the men were already driving off from Rudolph's driveway when he fired 39 shots at their vehicle with an AR-15.
"A German poet back in the French Revolution once said that murder begins when self defense ends."
After opening statements from both attorneys the state brought to the witness stand Keishaun Jones, the brother of Rudolph's girlfriend. He told the prosecutor that his text stating "Travis is a dead man walking" was meant as hyperbole and was not to be taken literally.
Rudolph is expected to testify in his own defense.
Rudolph went undrafted from FSU to the New York Giants in 2017 before spending a little time with the Miami Dolphins and later with the Canadian Football League. He was released after his arrest in this case.
