Gulf County, FL (October 19, 2018)
Port St. Joe Gas has restored service to all customers in Port St Joe and North Port St Joe that were home and ready for service. They will go back in the coming days to the homes that were not home when they came by. Starting Friday, they will be moving through Highland View, St Joe Beach and the Wewahitchka areas. They are estimating that all service will be restored by Sunday or Monday excluding Mexico Beach. They will begin work in Mexico Beach next week.
Gulf County residents affected by the hurricane can apply for FEMA Disaster Assistance at the Honeyville Community Center 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST and at the Constitution Convention Museum, 2201 Centennial Dr., Port St Joe, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.
Sacred Heart Hospital on the Gulf is open and operational for inpatient admissions. Anticipating beginning surgical services next week.
The local donation centers have ample water and are requesting the following items to be donated:
Toilet Paper, Laundry Detergent, Bleach, Lysol Wipes, Clorox Wipes, Industrial Trash Bags, N95 Masks, Cleaning Gloves, Hygiene items, batteries, Depends, Baby formula and Roofing Nails/ Tarps.
These three locations are set up to receive and distribute donations:
Washington Rec Center donation site at 401 Peters Ave. Port St. Joe,
Centennial Building 202 Marina Dr., Port St. Joe,
Old Wewa Gym, 852 South Highway 71, Wewa.
Tankers are providing water for livestock at 111 Lake Alice Dr. Wewa, this service is self-serve.
Gulf Coast Electric Cooperative reports that crews are working across Gulf County diligently, however, many homes and businesses have been damaged to the extent that they cannot accept service when it becomes available. There are currently more than 1000 crewmen, in addition to Gulf Coast Electric Cooperative’s employees, working on the restoration effort. Because all available resources are dedicated to power restoration, offices remain closed until further notice.
Duke Energy reports full restoration of power to all customers in Gulf County that are safe to receive power. They will continue to have sweeps throughout the area to assist customers that may have issues with being reconnected.
Duke Energy customers who have NOT had power restored to their home or business may call Duke Energy Customer Service at 800-700-8744 to request reconnection.
Duke Energy will be working with Gulf County and the City of Port St Joe to coordinate the inspection process on repairs for those customers who are not yet safe to receive power. With the restoration of power to Gulf County and the City of Port St Joe now complete they will be shifting to rebuild their service for customers from St Joe Beach to Mexico Beach. Duke Energy will have a team of 500 that will concentrate on this rebuild phase and will stay engaged on the project to completion.
