New York Times bestselling author, Lisa Wingate, is this fall’s guest speaker for the “Books and Bites” Luncheon. The author event and book signing takes place on Friday, October 6th at 12 p.m. in the Bay County Public Library meeting room. A light lunch will be provided. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Bay County Public Libraries. Register to attend the free “Books and Bites” luncheon by calling (850) 522-2100 or visiting the library.
Wingate’s thirteenth novel, Before We Were Yours is a historical fiction based on the true life scandal of Georgia Tann’s Tennessee Children’s Home Society that often stole children from single mothers or poor families to be adopted into wealthy families. In 1936, the five Foss children find their lives forever changed when their parents leave them alone one evening on the family shantyboat on the Mississippi River. Rill Foss, the oldest of the siblings, must find a way to protect her younger siblings once they find themselves in a Tennessee Children’s Home Society orphanage. In present day, Avery Stafford is a rising, young lawyer who heads home to help her father who is in poor health while being groomed for his senate seat. In a chance encounter, Avery meets a woman who leaves questions about her family’s long-hidden history. Copies of Before We Were Yours will be available for purchase at the luncheon through Books Unlimited.
