Now, I'll be the first to agree that someone's favorite film is someone else's 90 minute butt numbing waste of time.
I personally despised Interstellar. And while I thought Inception was ok, I didn't understand the hype around it.
All that being said, I'll give you their Top 5 most overrated and tell you what I think. Let me know if you agree or not...
5. "Grease", 1978 - Ok, this makes sense to me. The message definitely didn't age well. And I don't think I'd be ok with my kids watching the movie, especially at a young age. I think I was four or five when I saw it the first time, and I saw it in theatres at least four times with my Mom and brother. Mom loved the movie. But all these actors were too old to be playing highschoolers, LOL.
4. "Everything Everywhere All at Once", 2019 - I really enjoyed this movie. I thought it lived up to the hype. But I can see that it's not the easiest movie to follow. And the hot dog fingers were just... weird.
3. "Up", 2009 - Probably the most controversial in the Top 5, although for me that was #2, and I get it. The first part of movie where the couple meets and grows old together is beautiful and heart wrenching. If it had been a short film, it would have been perfect! Chef's Kiss. But for many, the balloon journey doesn't live up to the first act. And that is fair. I don't agree but I understand this.
2. "The Shawshank Redemption", 1994 - No. This is just plain wrong. If you have anything bad to say about Shawshank, wash your mouth out with soap please.
1. "Joker", 2019 - Again fair. Anti-hero movies are always a tough sell. And it's a very slow origin story. I kind of loved it, but in that slow burn, not what I expected kind of way. To each their own.
